Niobium is a gray metal, melting point 2468℃, boiling point 4742℃, density 8.57g/cm3. Niobium is a lustrous gray metal with paramagnetism. High purity niobium metal has high ductility but hardens with increasing impurity content. Its outermost shell configuration is very different from that of the other five. The same phenomenon occurs with the front and back elements ruthenium (44), rhodium (45) and palladium (46). Niobium exhibits superconductor properties at low temperatures. Its critical temperature of 9.2K at standard atmospheric pressure is the highest of any single superconductor. It also has the highest magnetic penetration of any element. Niobium is one of three simple Class II superconductors, the other two being vanadium and technetium. The purity of niobium metal greatly affects its superconductivity.
Niobium has a very low cross section for thermal neutrons and is therefore of considerable use in the nuclear industry.
Niobium is stable in air at room temperature, and is not completely oxidized in oxygen at red heat. It is directly combined with sulfur, nitrogen and carbon at high temperature, and can form alloys with titanium, zirconium, hafnium and tungsten. Does not interact with inorganic acids or bases, and is insoluble in aqua regia, but soluble in hydrofluoric acid.
Niobium metal is extremely stable in air at room temperature and does not interact with air. Although it has a higher melting point (2468°C) in its elemental state, its density is lower than that of other refractory metals. Niobium also resists various kinds of erosion and can form a dielectric oxide layer.
The coating target is a sputtering source that forms various functional films on the substrate by magnetron sputtering, multi-arc ion plating or other types of coating systems under appropriate technological conditions. To put it simply, the target material is the target material of high-speed charged particles bombardment. When used in high-energy laser weapons, different power densities, different output waveforms and different wavelengths of laser interact with different targets, different killing and destruction effects will be produced. For example, evaporative magnetron sputtering coating is heated evaporation coating, aluminum film, etc. Change different target material (such as aluminum, copper, stainless steel, titanium, nickel target, etc.), can get different film system (such as super hard, wear resistant, corrosion resistant alloy film, etc.).
